Pipe Dream Polish Neon Watermarble

I'm very excited to share this mani with you today!  I finally got my hands on a set of Pipe Dream Polish A Night In Vegas Cremes collection and they really are all they are chalked up to be.  Read on for more pics and info!

Glam My Mani vinyls were a press sample. Other polishes were purchased by me.

So April from Pipe Dream Polish had a restock with a surprise release time and I was so lucky to actually successfully order a full ANIVC set!  Thanks to USPS, I had to wait a bit until they actually arrived (seriously, what is UP with their service lately?!?  It Grade A SUCKS!) but they are here!

L-R: OPI Nail Envy, OPI Alpine Snow, Pipe Dream Polish High Roller, VIP Pass, and All In, Zoya Willa, KBShimmer Clearly On Top

And to celebrate, I went to the back of the beer fridge for some Maple Mistress imperial ale.  Mmmmmm, this beer is delicious.  It is brewed at Saucony Creek Brewing Company in PA, it's a pumpkin based ale, and sits at 9.5% ABV.  It has notes of roasted butternut squash and natural maple syrup, along with delicious fall spices.  I believe it is only available in fall, but it's the perfect beer that hits the spot with only one serving.
Mmmmmm.... beer.  With my mani station mess behind it.

I began by taping off my Cindy hand, because we all know the Cindy hand is for experimenting.  At least, mine is.  I had already painted one coat of OPI Nail Envy on both hands.  I used blue painter's tape since that's all I had available at the time.  It worked out pretty well in my opinion.

Next I painted one coat of OPI Alpine Snow.  Since it was being used as an undie, I didn't worry too much about the coverage or if it was patchy.  I couldn't really clean up because of the tape, so first lesson learned: paint the white base before using the tape.

I didn't get a shot of the polishes in my cup, but I'll explain it from start to finish.  I used a recycled plastic container to marble in.  It's a small ricotta cheese container that has been washed out so there is no residue to hinder my water marbling.  It's a bit deep for my needs, so I feel like I end up wasting a lot of water.  That's important to me because I used bottled distilled water, not just tap water.  I'm not sure if my water choice made a difference, but OMG....  These polishes spread like a fifty-cent hooker... I mean, like a dream... they spread like a dream!

I used High Roller (neon green), All In (neon blue), and V.I.P Pass (neon purple) for this marble.  I dropped the polishes in the water in the following order: HR, AI, HR, VIPP, HR, AI, HR, VIPP, HR (and so on and so forth).  I don't recall how many rings I had, sorry.  I just kept dropping until I felt like I had a good mix.

The tool I used to create the design was a sewing needle stuck into an eraser on a pencil.  This gave me great control to create the design.  First I drug the polish from the center up and then down, then I drug it from side to side, cleaning off the needle after a few passes.  I tried to keep the lines close together, but after I dunked my first two nails in I decided I could make them a little looser.

I dipped two nails at a time so I didn't waste my polish.  The circumference of my cup was wide enough that I could have fit all four fingers at the same time, but for me that was just too many nails to keep track of at once!  My first two fingers were a learning experience.  I knocked my ring finger (first pic below) slightly against the side of the cup and messed up the tip, but it came out pretty well!  My pink finger (second pic) was a disaster.  I caught it on my qtip that I was using to clean the extra polish from the water, so I thought I could just re-dip it... nope, since I dug into the white base too.  Another lesson learned... steer clear of your nails in the water!

Very close line design for watermarbling

Whoops.
FML.  How to fix this...?

With the exception of the tragedy that is the middle of the nail, that double dip looks kind of cool!

I dropped more polish, made another design, and dipped my middle and index fingers next.  They turned out much better, but I ended up dipping my middle finger parallel to the water so I caught some air bubbles between my nail and the design.  Boo.  I just touched them up by dotting with the same color.  For my thumb, I made sure to dunk at an angle and that I went much more slowly.  That helped so much!  I slowly pulled it out at the same angle.

I used the same technique for my left hand, except I painted my white base before taping.  I used the same design, and made sure to dip my nails at an angle.  Wonderful!  My index finger caught a weird part of the design, but whatever.

Successful marbling!!  OMG!  My favorite was my thumb.  This was before topcoat.  I let them dry a bit and then topped them all with KBShimmer Clearly On Top quick dry topcoat.

My thumb turned out to be my favorite  =)

And my pile of tape.  It was so pretty!  Lol
I could have made them in to a painting.  Don't laugh!

My initial intention was to stamp over the design with black.  Since I have no good black stamping polish yet, my first attempt was on my Cindy pinky finger.  Thank goodness.  Next came the nail vinyls, since I wasn't going to freehand a design and ruin this mani.  ;-)

I settled on my anchor vinyls from Glam My Mani.  They are the bomb!  I only wish I would have gone at this a bit differently but lesson learned for next time.  I used the decal part of the vinyl and centered them on my index and pinky nails, making sure there was no space between my nail and the decal.  I painted over my nail with Zoya Willa, then while it was still wet I used needle-nosed tweezers to pull the vinyl up (I did one nail at a time).  I should have gone back and touched up the little spots you can see where I dug into the surrounding polish when pulling the vinyls up, but I top coated before I realized that.

You can see where I really messed it up on my Cindy hand.  I tried to touch it up with my cleanup brush, I don't know who had that novel idea... Oh yeah, beer.  I let those dry a bit so I didn't smear them, then top coated with another coat of KBShimmer Clearly On Top.
Clean up brush is not good for detailing!

I can tell you that Pipe Dream Polish wears extremely well.  At least the ones I used.  Since I didn't have time during the week to do any other manis, I kept this on for seven days.  SEVEN DAYS!  And I had minimal tip wear.  No cracks, no chips, nothing!  So this shot below is on day seven in natural light.

Do you own any Pipe Dream Polish A Night In Vegas Cremes?  What is your favorite color combination?

  14. WOW IT GLOWS! I don't have any Pipe Dream Polish, but man, I've seen so many stunning water marbles using these polishes, yours included! I don't know how you applied tape with wet nails, or if you waited for them to dry (when you did your swatching hand). Love this though...So gorgeous!

    1. The color in these polishes is soooo bright IRL, oh my goodness. And thank you so much!! After I marbled my Cindy hand I topped it all with KBShimmer Clearly On Top (I waited to use the vinyls until after I did my swatching hand). It's a pretty fast quick dry, so I didn't have any trouble with using the tape, although I did move slowly and very carefully. =)

  18. These are amazing! Watermabling can be a pain in the ass, but yours came out great. The vinyls are just the icing on the cake!

  19. Sigh. You're really making me regret not getting these during the restock. I loved the hooker comment, I lol'ed. Also, considering these where kinda coknails, they really came out great. I'm a lightweight so there's no way I could drink and do any type of nail art, although I did do swatches under the influence of NyQuil. Once I saw the result when I woke up the next day, I determined it was a bad idea.
